Milan, a Suitcase and a Few Hours: Choose Your Route

You have a suitcase, some free time and a city to explore. Before choosing where to leave your luggage, answer one question: where do you next need to be with your suitcase?

It might be a train platform, the departure point for an airport transfer or your accommodation. That next stop changes which storage location makes sense.

Read this page as a series of choices. Find your situation, follow the number and skip the rest.

1. Where are you heading with your suitcase?

You are leaving from Milano Centrale. Go to section 2.

You need to reach an airport. Go to section 3.

You are waiting to check in. Go to section 4.

You have not decided what to do next. Go to section 5.

Leaving from another station? Use the method in section 2 for the station on your ticket. You do not necessarily need to pass through Milano Centrale.

2. Your train leaves from Milano Centrale

Choose the situation that fits your day.

You are already near the station and want to explore

Consider leaving your suitcase before starting your visit. You can explore without luggage and collect it when you return to the area for your train.

Lock & Go Milano Centrale, at Via Tonale 5, is one option to compare with your planned route.

Your choice: storage near Centrale, sightseeing, luggage collection, station. Before confirming, check availability and locker dimensions. Then go to section 6.

You are already in the centre and want to stay there until departure

Compare two sequences: going to Centrale now to leave your suitcase and returning to the centre, or storing it in the centre and collecting it before heading to the station.

Do not compare only the minutes spent carrying your suitcase. Include the extra journeys you would make without it.

Lock & Go Milano Duomo, at Via Santa Maria Valle 1, lets you consider the second sequence.

Your choice: if you stay in the centre, check the journey from storage to the station and decide when to collect your luggage. If your visit takes you back towards Centrale, reconsider the first option. Then go to section 6.

3. You need to reach an airport

Have you chosen your transport and its departure point?

Yes. Use that departure point as your reference. Work backwards: airport, transfer departure, suitcase collection, final activity in the city. A storage location works if it fits into this sequence without a detour you cannot afford.

No. Decide how you will reach the airport first. Check the airport, terminal where relevant, timetable and departure point on your chosen operator’s official website. Only then compare storage locations.

Do not automatically choose Centrale or Duomo because the names are familiar: your connection may leave from elsewhere.

Your choice: identify the transfer, then the luggage collection point. Go to section 6.

4. Your room is not ready yet

Can your accommodation hold your suitcase before check-in?

Yes, and returning there is convenient. Confirm the conditions and collection time. You may already have your solution.

No, or returning there would interrupt your day. Choose where to spend the waiting time, then compare two journeys: from your current location to storage, and from storage to your accommodation when it is time to check in.

If you are waiting around Duomo, consider Via Santa Maria Valle 1. If your waiting time and onward journey centre on Centrale, consider Via Tonale 5. Your itinerary matters, not just your hotel’s neighbourhood.

Your choice: find a collection point that fits your check-in plans. Go to section 6.

5. Your plans are still open

Choose one thing you would like to do before collecting your suitcase: a walk in the centre, lunch, a booked visit or meeting someone.

Then ask: after this activity, where will I need my luggage next?

If you know, return to section 1 with that destination in mind. If not, favour a solution with a straightforward collection journey from the area where you expect to stay. Before booking, consider a change of neighbourhood: how much time and travel would it take to return for your suitcase?

6. Does your choice still work when you return?

Complete this sentence before booking:

“I leave my suitcase at ___, spend my time at ___, collect it at ___ and then head to ___.”

If a step is unclear, check it before proceeding. Also check the actual size of your bags, availability, the price for your chosen duration and access instructions.

To work out your free time, subtract travel, drop-off, collection and a buffer for unexpected delays from the time before your next commitment. What remains is the time you can actually spend enjoying the city.

A purely illustrative example: if you have three hours and set aside one hour in total for these steps, you have two hours free. This is not a Milan transfer estimate: use journey times checked for your travel date and time.

Completed the sentence? Browse Lock & Go locations and check your chosen option. Your next step is yours to choose.
